Schwedisches Krebsfest

Event header

Crayfish were already a favourite among Sweden's ruling kings around 1560, they were considered a delicacy and were reserved for the wealthy classes until the early 1960s.

The tradition of Kräftskiva originated from a ban on fishing that was introduced at the end of the 19th century in order to protect domestic stocks and was in force annually until 7 August. The ban meant that from mid-August to mid-September, friends and family in Sweden would gather in large groups to eat and celebrate crayfish together.

We will be reviving this tradition at WUEST!

We'll be serving up a big family-style dinner, and we'll also be teaching you a traditional schnapps song or two with some genuine Swedes.

We will serve you loads of crayfish, traditional "Västerbotten Paj", home-baked bread, "Knäcke", dill butter and aioli. To drink, the price includes wine, water and beer! Everything else, in addition to many specials such as cider and crayfish beer, can be ordered additionally at the bar.

We're looking forward to see you here!
